Delete your Chessivity account

Deutsch

How to delete your account and the data linked to it, on the website and in the Chessivity app for Android.

You can delete your Chessivity account yourself at any time. You do not need to contact us first, and you do not need to install the app.

1. Delete your account yourself

Sign in on chessivity.com or in the Chessivity app, then open Settings → Privacy & data.

In the Danger zone section, choose Delete account. You will be asked to type your username to confirm. Deletion starts immediately once you confirm and cannot be undone.

2. Download your data first (optional)

Before you delete your account, you can download a copy of the personal data linked to it as a JSON file. You will find the download under Settings → Privacy & data. After deletion, this export is no longer available.

3. What is deleted

When you delete your account, we remove in particular:

  • your username, email address, password, display name, profile text, profile picture and chess title;
  • your uploaded images and other media files;
  • your links to Lichess and Google, together with the profile data received from them;
  • your follower and following relationships, blocks, likes, saved posts and puzzle progress;
  • your notification settings, language settings and badges;
  • your notifications, follow requests and the reports you have submitted;
  • your push notification tokens and browser notification addresses, and all active login sessions;
  • authorisations you granted to connected third-party applications.

Your posts and comments are separated from your profile and their content is erased. Messages you sent are marked as deleted and their content is redacted.

4. What is retained, and why

A small amount of data has to remain after deletion. We keep it in a form that is no longer linked to your person:

  • An anonymised account record. Instead of removing the account row entirely, we blank it out and rename it. This keeps references elsewhere in the platform technically valid. It no longer contains a name, email address or profile.
  • Placeholders in conversations and comment threads. Other participants may still see that a deleted message or comment existed, so that the remaining conversation stays readable. The content itself is erased.
  • Records of your acceptance of the Terms of Use. We must be able to demonstrate that consent was obtained, so these records are retained.
  • Billing records, where paid services were used, for the statutory retention period. These records are separated from your user account.
  • Backups. Deleted data may remain in our backups for a limited period until they are overwritten in the normal backup cycle.

Content that other people copied, quoted or shared outside Chessivity while your account was active is outside our control and cannot be deleted by us.

5. If you can no longer sign in

If you have lost access to your account, first try the password reset. If that does not work, send a deletion request to privacy@chessivity.com. Please state the username or the email address of the account. We may need to ask you for further information in order to verify that the account is yours before we delete it. This protects you against deletion requests made by other people.

6. Uninstalling the app is not the same as deleting your account

Uninstalling the Chessivity app from your device removes the app and its local data from that device, and stops push notifications to it. Your account and the data stored on our servers remain. To remove those, use the deletion steps above.

7. More information

Our Privacy Policy describes what data we process, on what legal basis and for how long. Your rights, including the right to erasure, are set out there in Section 11. Section 24 of our Terms of Use covers termination and account deletion.
